, the government agency that oversees the state’s history museum and its major historic preservation efforts, has appointed a two-person team to direct operations temporarily.
Steve W. Turner, an architect who serves as deputy state historic preservation officer, will work with current board member .
They bring a background in both business and history. Turner also serves as vice president of preservation programs for History Colorado. Musgraves has done stints on several nonprofit boards and is the retired chief operating officer of Titanium Metals Corp.
The pair will step in to run things in , including CEO Edward Nichols, who are taking early-retirement packages offered to employees this month.
Despite recent growth in visitors, the history museum has struggled financially. Currently, it is reducing its $15 million annual budget by about $1.5 million a year to balance its books and build reserves.
The board plans to conduct a search for new leadership.
