Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivers a speech during Monday in Tehran. (Office of the Iranian Supreme Leader via The Associated Press)
Re: “The meaning of “Death to America,’ ” Aug. 27 Greg Dobbs column.
It is incredible to read that someone understands “Death to America” to mean “We don’t want your culture,” as Greg Dobbs writes.
Even if Dobbs did talk to “one person” in Iran who claimed this meaning, it is impossible to read the Ayatollah’s fanatical rant “Death to America” to merely mean that he objects to our culture.
I expect tomorrow to read that Ali Khamenei’s “We will annihilate Israel” really means Iran does not intend to open a consulate there soon.

This letter was published in the Sept. 1 edition.I take great exception to Greg Dobbs’ column. Those who chant “Death to America” are far different than just not wanting our culture into their society. Wake up, Mr. Dobbs — are you not aware of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York? Are you unaware of the embassy bombings of Nairobi, Dar es Salaam and Benghazi? Are you unaware of the Khobar Towers and Marine barracks bombings, as well as the attack on the USS Cole? Are you also unaware of the attacks at Fort Hood, Texas, and the Boston Marathon? All of these attacks were by people who would chant “Death to America.”
These individuals and their governments, and their so-called religious leaders, mean to kill us. They mean to create havoc and mayhem, cause death and destruction, whenever and wherever they can. They mean to destroy you, us and our country. Itap more than just not wanting our culture in their society — they want to kill us, and they are trying very hard to do so.
