Downer of a decade. It’s hard to be a big college football fan when the University of Colorado hasn’t competed in a decade.
John, Buff hurt
Kiz: Let’s get right to the introductions. Mike MacIntyre, hot seat. Hot seat, Coach Mac. No football team deserved that ridiculous Three Stooges routine by game officials during the final seconds of an ugly season-opening defeat in Hawaii. But, make no mistake, the Buffs deserved to lose to a second-tier team from a second-tier conference. The CU football team should have joined the Mountain West; the Buffs are out of their league in the Pac-12. Now what? If MacIntyre fails to beat Colorado State, it’s hard to imagine how he survives in Boulder long enough to see the completion of this rebuilding job.
Memo from Mars. Read your column comparing the NFL injustices against Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Broncos safety T.J. Ward. I just wanted to congratulate you on the first post ever written from Mars. Your logic? Banana Land.
Joe, member of Brady’s bunch
Kiz: For the record, let me say: 1) The Patriots have pushed the envelope on NFL rules in the past, as have the Broncos; 2) Deflategate was much ado about nothing that any reasonable commissioner could have settled within 72 hours after the AFC championship game; 3) Judge Richard Berman made the correct call by erasing Brady’s suspension; and 4) Roger Goodell’s insistence on playing judge, jury and executioner is a far greater threat to the league’s integrity than any football ever thrown by Brady, pictured above.
Rush to judgment. The NFL could have waited a bit longer to issue the Ward suspension. I think during warm-ups for the Sept. 13 opener against Baltimore would have been about the right timing. The league rushed it.
Dan, St. Louis
Kiz: If the NFL botched the in- vestigation of an alleged football rules violation on the field during a playoff game, why should any player or fan trust the league can competently investigate an off-the-field incident that would be better left to trained pros in our criminal justice system? But commissioner Goodell is not only above the law, his idea of justice is blind, dumb … and excruciatingly slow.
Post pattern. And today’s parting shot is a friendly greeting from a new Kickin’ It devotee in New England, where the Patriots would never cheat to get ahead.
The Denver Post, where small- market writers get to write stupid things.
