Re: “EEOC accuses DU law school of discriminating against women professors,” Sept. 1 news story.
I’m an alumnus of the University of Denver. For years, I was proud of that designation, but no more. In the last decade, the university’s administration has demonstrated a sense of arrogance and incompetency thatap beyond belief.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s investigation of the gender pay gap among DU’s legal faculty reflects the latest gaffe. The university is also on the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights’ list for possible violations of federal law over the handling of sexual violence and harassment on campus. On a more mundane level, there was the unceremonious dumping of the university’s hockey coach, George Gwozdecky, a class guy, without an explanation for his firing.
DU yearns to be considered a first-tier institution. Academically, itap improving, but itap not quite there yet. Administratively, itap a mess. The university would be better served if it got rid of some highly paid hacks in its administrative and managerial ranks and hired an ombudsperson to help prevent it from being a fumbling entity.
