The Denver Zoo is asking metro-area residents to participate in a contest to help name lion cubs born last week.

The African lion cubs, a male and a female, were born last Thursday and are bonding with their mother behind the scenes, the zoo said.

Submissions can be made through noon Sept. 25 via the zoo’s website. Participants must live within the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, which includes Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties.

“Contestants will be asked to recommend a name for each of the two cubs,” the zoo said. “Zookeepers will choose their two favorites from each county and allow the public to vote on the remaining 14 names.”

The two winners will get to meet the cubs, the zoo said.
