A man is in custody after allegedly stealing a car and evading El Paso County Sheriff’s officers until he crashed into a police car, officials said.

The sheriff’s office was searching for Jashua Nathan Kresky, 28, who had recently been released from prison. Kresky was wanted on several parole violations and was a person of interest in motor vehicle thefts and burglaries, according to an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office news release.

On Tuesday, officers spotted a Toyota going southbound on B Street approaching the South Academy Boulevard overpass, the release said.

The car’s license plate did not match the vehicle’s registration and officers determined that Kresky was driving the car.

When officers attempted to pull the car over using a flash bang, the suspect put the stolen car in reverse and began to back away from officers, the release said.

The pursuing parole officer blocked Kresky, and he crashed into the officer’s car, causing significant damage.

After searching Kresky’s car, officers recovered firearm ammunition, a large knife, drugs and stolen property, the release said.

Kresky faces charges with second-degree assault of a peace officer, aggravated motor vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance, the release said.
