Those walking to their favorite temple on Yom Kippur Wednesday will enjoy summer-like temperatures even though its the first day of fall.

“This isn’t football weather to me. This is just too warm,” said Frank Cooper, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “It’s really warm for this time of the year.”

The high temperature Wednesday is expected to reach 84 degrees, which is nine degrees higher than the normal temperature for Sept. 23.

The cloudy skies will give way to blue skies by the afternoon Wednesday. The low overnight is projected to drop to 53 degrees, Cooper said.

Temperatures will remain in the 80s through the weekend with a forecast of 85 by Sunday, Cooper said.

A high ridge from the southwest has pushed temperatures up. On Monday, the high was 89 in Denver,

A smattering of rain fell in the Denver metro area overnight. Sedgwick, in the northeastern corner of the state received more than a quarter-inch of percipitation.

A storm system pushing into the state from the northwest could bring more seasonal temperatures by next Wednesday.

“We’ll have more cooler temperatures and maybe some precipitation,” Cooper said.
