Pope Francis addresses a joint meeting of Congress at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday. (Mark Wilson, Getty Images)

As I read the pope’s speech to Congress Thursday, I began to cry with tears of joy and compassion. I am not Catholic, nor religious, but his words about human compassion and the common good were so unusual and so compelling, they made me love this good man and his ideals.

Pope Francis reminds me of the Dalai Lama. These two men live to make others’ lives better. That is truly rare.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, Pope Francis.

It is unfortunate for the Catholic Church that Pope Francis seems to have been taken in by the liberal propaganda hogwash espousing global warming and man-made climate change. It will detract from his otherwise sound message regarding same-sex marriage and the right to life. Hopefully he will not get involved in a daily rain dance championing a futile cause that will disenfranchise the enlightened faithful.

The only reason any of our elected officials in Washington, D.C. — or, for that matter, any true American citizen — could be upset about Pope Francis’ address to Congress is if they have a guilty conscience.
