A man and a woman were killed Thursday in Fort Lupton in a fiery, high-speed collision between a motorcycle and semi-trailer.

Fort Lupton Police Chief Ken Poncelow says the wreck happened on U.S. 85 at Weld County Road 18. The motorcycle was heading northbound on the highway when it struck the semi-trailer as it crossed eastbound on the county road.

The two killed were on the motorcycle. The semi-trailer’s driver was not injured.

“Speed, I’m sure, will be the factor,” Poncelow said.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office will release the names of those killed, authorities say.

Poncelow says he does not anticipate any charges will be filed against the semi-trailer’s driver.
