Getting your player ready...

Expect some beautiful autumn music to emanate from local clubs in October. Here are a few of the most promising shows:

Jane Monheit & Michael Kanan, Dazzle Jazz, Oct. 6: Accompanied by numerous profiles in the press and glamorous fashion shoots, vocalist Monheit was aggressively pushed as the future of jazz singing about a decade ago. She was skillful then, but as experience dictates, she projects more of a depth of feeling now. As quoted in her recent press materials, “After all this time in the industry, after touring for 13 years, it’s time to just be me, with complete and utter freedom.” Pianist Michael Kanan is a longtime collaborator, and the intimate confines of Dazzle should be a fine setting for the duos’ interpretations of standards from Duke Ellington and the Gershwins. Shows at 6 and 8 p.m., $35. 930 Lincoln St. Get tickets at .

Al Di Meola, Soiled Dove Underground, Oct. 19: It seems like the ageless guitar virtuoso Di Meola has been around since the birth of jazz fusion. That’s partly because keyboardist Chick Corea hired him to confront audiences with his Return to Forever project more than 40 years ago, when the guitarist was barely out of his teens. Di Meola has displayed his boundless energy in a variety of settings over the decades, immersing himself in the acoustic guitar for such a long chunk of time that his followers believed he may never revert to the style of fusion where he first made a name for himself. But in recent years, he has returned to amplification, and recent video evidence of live performances indicate he remains at the top of his game. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show start at $35, but Di Meola is offering a VIP fan package that includes a meet-and-greet, an autographed CD and poster, and a Q&A session delivered by the man himself. 7401 E. First Ave. Details are available at .

Javon Jackson, Mount Vernon Country Club, Oct. 22: The tenor saxophonist spent his wonder years in Denver before hitting the road with the peerless drummer Art Blakey as a latter-day member of The Jazz Messengers, recording for the Blue Note label, and other enviable achievements. Jackson doesn’t play around his hometown very much these days, and it’s always nice to hear his warm and inventive sound in person. For this date, he’ll be accompanied by trumpeter Eddie Henderson, a ’70s contemporary of Miles Davis’ and a truly underrated player. Mount Vernon Country Club always offers up a buffet dinner (6 p.m.) before the 8 p.m. concert. 24933 Clubhouse Circle, Golden. Concert only: $25; dinner and concert: $49.95. Find out more at .

Trish Hatley sings at Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club on Oct. 8. … The SFJAZZ Collective performs the music of Michael Jackson at CU’s Macky Auditorium on Oct. 9. … Medeski Martin and Wood keyboardist John Medeski joins Robert Randolph and the North Mississippi Allstars at the Boulder Theater on Oct. 9. … Pianist Tamir Hendelman and his trio appear at the Greeley Country Club on Oct. 16.
