Moots Cycles has a new owner. Chris Miller, the 20-year owner of announced Thursday that he is selling his Steamboat Springs company to Brent Whittington, a former telecommunications executive.

Whittington, an avid mountain biker and road cyclist who recently service as CEO of Windstream Holdings, said in a statement that all current employees would remain on board — including president Butch Boucher — and the company would remain in Steamboat Springs.

The deal gives him 100 percent ownership of Moots, including its three-story, 15,000-square-foot headquarters, which includes office, a factory and two employee apartments.

“It’s incredible for me to have this unique opportunity to own one of the most respected cycling brands in the industry,” Whittington said in the statement.

Miller said he was happy to pass Moots to a new owner with a passion for cycling and “a great depth of business experience.”

“Brent embodies everything we were looking for in the new Moots owner,” said Miller, who bought Moots in 1995 from mountain biking legend Kent Erikson, who founded the company in 1981.
