A locomotive in Fort Collins spilled 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel on Tuesday afternoon.

Poudre Fire Authorities says the spill happened near the intersection of South Lemay and Riverside avenues about 4:45 p.m.

“When crews arrived they found one locomotive leaking a large amount of diesel fuel from one of its 2,600 gallon tanks,” the authority said in a news release.

Firefighters cordoned off the area, but authorities say there was no immediate danger and no evacuations were made

Great Western Railway and Union Pacific worked with fire crews to contain the spill and start working toward clean up, according to fire officials.

“It was found that the cause of the leak was a punctured tank, possibly from some kind of debris along the tracks,” the release said.
