ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — A town councilman in Snowmass Village accused of causing thousands of dollars in damage to a jail cell after being arrested on a DUI charge has lost his job.

Voters overwhelming opted to recall 50-year-old Chris Jacobson from office in the town’s first such election on Tuesday.

Jacobson was arrested in June on suspicion of driving drunk and is accused of tearing off sections of a rubberized wall in the Pitkin County jail’s isolation cell, pulling a restraining chair out of the ground and urinating on the floor.

The Aspen Times (http://bit.ly/1NcuM0q ) reports that Jacobson missed the last eight town council meetings and hasn’t told members where he is. The newspaper reported that Jacobson responded to an email Tuesday seeking comment about his absences with criticism of its reporting.
