The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking people who evacuated their horses Wednesday because of the North Hogback fire not to bring the animals back yet because of hot spots that have flared up.
The sheriff’s office on Thursday said it would let residents know when it’s safe to bring horses back.
The fire near C-470 and West Bowles Avenue burned 33 acres on Wednesday and was 30 percent contained by late Thursday afternoon, said West Metro Fire Protection District spokeswoman Ronda Scholting.
“There was no growth overnight,” she said.
Cooler temperatures and higher humidity are lowering the chances of additional fire activity in the area, Scholting said.
“However, it is a little windy, so we’re keeping an eye on that,” she said.
Fire crews will probably remain on scene into Friday, Scholting said.
“This fire is relatively close to a neighborhood, and they need to make sure it’s 100 percent out before they leave,” she said.
Investigators said the fire was possibly caused by a spark from passing traffic.
