Getting your player ready...

The Broncos were missing one of their best players from practice Thursday.

Outside linebacker Von Miller was attending a funeral for the death of a family member. The absence was excused by the team.

Miller is expected to return back to Denver Thursday night before rejoining the team for practice Friday.

Get use to Schofield

Coach Gary Kubiak said Michael Schofield would stay at right tackle even after Ty Sambrailo returns from injury.

After saying Wednesday that Thursday was a big test for Sambrailo to return from his shoulder, Kubiak said he saw some good things, but they still hope to see more strength from Sambrailo.

“Even if Ty does come back, I don’t see Ty playing 50, 60 plays,” Kubiak said. “That’s not going to be the case, so yeah we’ll stay just how we are.”

If the offensive line does remain status quo it would be Ryan Harris at left tackle, Evan Mathis at left guard, Matt Paradis at center, Louis Vasquez at right guard and Schofield at right tackle.

Worthy of praise

Kicker Brandon McManus named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month Thursday.

Kubiak and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis praised McManus for his improvement and production for the team this season.

“That’s a great accomplishment from where he came from,” DeCamillis said. “It just shows that hard work pays off and that he got some confidence.”

“He’s been our special teams player of the game four out of six weeks,” Kubiak added. “He’s earned his keep and I’m proud of him.”

Injury updates

Receiver Emmanuel Sanders, outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware (back), cornerback Aqib Talib (ankle), Sambrailo (shoulder) and Mathis (hamstring) were all limited participants for the second straight day.

Outside linebacker Shane Ray (sprained MCL) was the only Bronco not at practice due to injury.
