Colorado’s Tedric Thompson had a 71-yard pass interception in CU’s 42-10 loss to Stanford on Saturday (Daily Camera/Cliff Grassmick).

Boulder — It seemed to sum up the day. Colorado safety Tedric Thompson made a third-quarter interception, broke a tackle and returned it 71 yards to the Stanford three yard line, where he was caught from behind.

“I really felt like I should have scored,” Thompson said, “and I was upset with myself for that.”

A touchdown there would have made it 35-17. But the offense couldn’t score on four plays — actually lost two yards — and ultimately CU fell 42-10.

“It’s demoralizing,” Thompson said. “Every team we’ve lost to doesn’t have any more talent than we do. They aren’t doing anything we aren’t preparing for. It hurts to keep losing these games. I’m tired of hearing people say that we’re ‘This close,’ and, ‘If we had made this play or that play, it would have been different.’ It’s happening week after week and we need to come together as men and really figure it out. It’s out of the coaches’ hands at this point. They are doing everything right, making the right calls and preparing us. We just need to buckle down as men and accomplish our goals.”
