COMMERCE CITY — Rapids’ two-time team MVP Dillon Powers is on trial at Reading FC in the second division of English football, Colorado announced Monday.

“They’ve done their due diligence on (Powers),” said Rapids vice president of soccer operations Paul Bravo. “With some of the injury issues that they’re having currently, they’re looking at this as a potential to take Dillon on.”

“Dillon is a player that we should be looking to build around,” Bravo said. “Because he does embody a lot of what we are trying to do around here.”

A 24-year-old attacking midfielder, Powers was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft out of Notre Dame and went on to r that season. He has 13 goals and 21 assists in 92 league games with Colorado.

Powers traveled to Reading on Saturday where he began his two-week trial.

Bravo said , but that they have to keep an open mind on anything that can help the Rapids improve in 2016. A sale to Reading could bring back a transfer fee the Rapids could reinvest.

Additionally, Powers has voiced a desire to one day play in Europe and has an Italian passport, which would facilitate the move.

“From day one, he’s been very clear with his intentions,” Bravo said of Powers’ desire to play in Europe.

Rapids’ designated player Kevin Doyle made a name for himself at Reading, scoring 55 goals in 157 games there between 2005 and 2009, and helping lead them to promotion to the Premier League in 2006.

Asked on Twitter what he thought of his teammate, Doyle said .
