
A man who fired a shot at police in Fort Collins has been convicted of attempted second degree murder.
Jose Ornelas-Licano, 41, was found guilty Thursday by a Larimer County jury, concluding an eight-day trial, according to a Larimer County District Attorney’s Office media release.
On Dec. 12, 2014, Fort Collins police were attempting to apprehend Ornelas-Licano on an outstanding fugitive warrant.
Ornelas-Licano attempted to at Officer Jake Schneider, prosecutors said. Schneider was not injured in the incident.
Ornelas-Licano was also found guilty of attempted second degree murder of a peace officer, vehicular eluding, possession of a defaced firearm, leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and prohibited use of a firearm.
The sentencing range on the attempted second degree murder of a peace officer charge is from 10 to 32 years.
Ornelas-Licano, who is being held without bond, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8.
