The Denver Rescue Mission is planning to accommodate all people in need of shelter Monday night as a blizzard approaches the metro area.
“We make it a point of not turning anybody away,” said Alexxa Gagner spokeswoman for the homeless shelter.
The shelter for homeless men at 1130 Park Avenue W. has 200 beds and an additional 100 mats for men.
The homeless shelter will also provide chairs and space for women and children, Gagner said.
“When temperatures are crazy, we just want to ensure the safety of as many people as we can,” she said. “We’re definitely anticipating a full facility tonight.”
The shelter offers three meals a day for the homeless. Breakfast starts at 6 a.m., lunch at noon and dinner at 7 p.m., Gagner said.
Other shelters are expanding their hours of operation in preparation for the storm, he said.
The Rev. John Moorehead, executive director of Christ Body Ministry, 850 Lincoln St., said the day shelter will open its doors about three hours early Tuesday morning because of the storm.
It normally opens at 10 a.m., but it will open around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Moorehead said.
“We’ll have a safe warm place for them,” he said.
