Terrorists wage a deadly strike at Paris, an ISIS suspect is on the loose, a refugee crisis continues, U.S. political campaigns forge ahead, a blizzard disrupts routine in Denver… and we’re supposed to care about Charlie Sheen?
Sheen went on NBC’s “Today” to announce his HIV-positive status, hoping to end what he called “this onslaught, this barrage of attacks.” He explained he has been paying people to keep his secret, spending “millions,” and wanted to be free.
The long-troubled actor is best known for the sitcom “Three and a Half Men,” from which he was fired after highly publicized run-ins with the producer.
“I was doing a lot of drugs,” he said. “I was drinking way too much. I was making a lot of bad decisions.”
A number of gossip sites and more mainstream publications including People, Radar and the National Enquirer, spread the Sheen HIV news on Monday. Sheen is receiving ongoing treatment and appeared with his doctor in making the announcement.
In the midst of a serious news week, with the world at war, it was difficult to care about a self-destructive actor’s personal, medical or financial situation.
