About 100 people gathered on Broadway between Colfax and 14th avenues Tuesday night to protest police shootings and police brutality, both here and in Chicago.

Some of the Denver protestors carried signs and others candles, in commemoration of , a black teenager who was shot 16 times by a white Chicago police officer in 2014. A videotape of the Chicago shooting was released Tuesday.

Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder earlier Tuesday in McDonald’s shooting death.

Some drivers heading south on Broadway blew their horns in support and encouragement of the gathering.

At about 7:30 p.m. the group marched to the Denver City Jail, a few blocks west, chanting “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice, No Peace.”

The marchers, at the jail, called for the release of videotapes in relation to the death of Denver inmate .

On Tuesday, city officials announced that six Denver Sheriff Department deputies are on restricted duty in relation to Marshall’s death investigation.

Marshall, a 50-year-old black man, was hospitalized for several days after a Nov. 11 incident at the downtown jail. He died Friday.

Scant information about his death has been released by the sheriff’s office. Marchers called for “Justice For Marshall.”
