BIG SPRINGS, Neb. — A shooting in western Nebraska left a man wanted in Colorado dead and a deputy seriously injured.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Thursday when Deuel County deputies attempted to serve arrest warrants for 66-year-old Neil S. Stretesky, of Big Springs. Shots were fired in an altercation and Stretesky and 52-year-old deputy Michael Hutchinson were taken to a hospital in Ogallala.

Stretesky was wanted for violating his bond on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly beating his father with a hammer in October 2014, in Julesburg.
