Denver will bask in temperatures in the 60s Thursday before a storm drops temperatures to the 30s over the weekend.

“It’s the last warm day before a storm system enters the state,” said Scott Entrekin, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Skiers have good reason to anticipate the upcoming storm, with forecasts of between 6 to 12 inches of new snow, Entrekin said.

“It’s an early Christmas present for the ski resorts,” he said.

Denver should get between 2 and 5 inches of snow Friday night and Saturday, Entrekin said.

“It’s back to wintertime,” he said. “We’ll see the most dramatic temperature drop on Saturday.”

The low temperatures could reach the teens before Sunday, when during the day, temperatures should rise to the 40s, Entrekin said.

Another storm system is expected on Monday and Tuesday. So far, it does not appear to be a strong system, he said.
