Icy roads and temperatures in the teens are greeting Denver residents on this frigid Wednesday morning.

After a on Tuesday left the Front Range with a thick blanket of snow, road conditions on Wednesday morning were slick as freezing temperatures turned snow-packed roads to ice.

During the day, the sun will be out and temperatures will warm up to just below freezing, said forecaster Bernie Meier with the National Weather Service.

“That’ll help to thaw out some streets,” he said.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on Twitter of a flipped vehicle on Interstate 25 near the County Line Road exit.

“Be careful,” the sheriff’s office said in the tweet. “It’s slick out there.”

The afternoon looks dry, Meier said, but a weak system is rolling in Wednesday night that could send some more light snow Denver’s way.

“It’s generous to call it a storm,” Meier said. “It will be nothing like the last one. Probably no more than an inch of snow, at most.”

A handful of flights were cancelled at Denver International Airport on Wednesday morning. After the approximately on Tuesday due to inclement weather, airport spokeswoman Mindy Crane said operations were returning to normal.

“We do expect a busy morning and afternoon,” Crane said in an email. “Passengers should still check their flight status with their airline and also arrive at the airport at least two hours early.”

Those headed outside on Thursday should bundle up as temperatures are not likely to rise above 20 degrees, Meier said.

The mountains can expect areas of light snow throughout the day with 2 to 4 inches of accumulation overnight, Meier said.

This weekend is expected to warm up as the snow moves out and the sun moves in.

Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high around 50 degrees, Meier said. On Sunday, temperatures are going to be around 40 degrees, he said.

“It’s going to be dry,” Meier said.
