Adams County authorities have arrested a man in the fatal shooting of a woman found wounded Sunday afternoon after officials responded to a car crash.

The county sheriff’s office says investigators located the woman while investigating the crash in the 7300 block of Washington Street about 3 p.m.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died.

“We are not releasing the (woman’s) name until family members have been notified,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The suspect’s name has also not been released per the request of detectives investigating the case, said Sgt. Jim Morgen, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

Morgen said the man arrested was in the vehicle with the wounded woman. He described the crash as “a minor fender-bender.”

Morgen said there were conflicting statements about whether the woman was driving at the time of the crash.

“Detectives are investigating this as a homicide,” the release said. “As additional information becomes available, we will provide updates.”
