An Aurora man has been charged with first-degree murder in a Christmas Eve fatal shooting, officials said Wednesday.

Anthony Gerald Wernsman, 23, is accused of killing John Dunnigan, 42, on Dec. 24, according to a 17th Judicial District Attorney news release.

Adams County deputies responded to a house at 2780 W. 56th Ave. in unincorporated Adams County and found Dunnigan on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds, the release said.

Dunnigan was pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center.

Wernsman is charged with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation, one count of first-degree felony murder and one count of first-degree burglary with intent to commit assault, officials said.

Wernsman has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 18. He is being held without bond.
