Forecasters are calling for a chilly New Year’s Eve in Denver as unseasonably cold weather sticks around heading into 2016.

Mostly sunny skies are expected in the city on Thursday with a high near 23 degrees and wind chills as low as -2.

The low temperature will be about 2 degrees Thursday night.

“There will be a continued chance of light snow in the mountains, mainly along and west of the Continental Divide through this evening,” the National Weather Service in Boulder said in a forecast bulletin. “Any accumulation should be minor and confined to higher slopes and passes.”

On Friday in Denver, forecasters are calling for sunny skies with a high near 31 degrees and wind chill values as low as -8 degrees.

The bulletin said dry weather is expected into next week as temperatures remain below seasonal normals, but start to warm up as the New Year begins.

Saturday’s high in Denver is expected to top out near 36 degrees and Sunday’s high could hit 42 degrees.
