Greeley police believe foul play led to the disappearance of a 62-year-old man who has been missing for more than a month.
Investigators first began probing the case when they were called on Dec. 8 to check on the well being of Jose Dejesus Luna at a home on 1900 block of Sixth Street.
“While checking Luna’s residence with the family members, officers observed suspicious evidence and circumstance and began a more intensive search of this missing person,” police said in a Thursday news release. “Luna’s car was also unaccounted for.”
Authorities say they believe Luna was last seen on Nov. 30 when he did not report for work.
“He’s not the kind of person that normally takes off and doesn’t show up to work,” said Sgt. J.P. Tymkowych, a police spokesman. “He is a fairly solid person, then all of the sudden, the family can’t find him.”
Luna’s car, a 1984 red Nissan Pulsar, has since been recovered, police said, but further details on where it was found were not released.
Investigators did not say specifically why they now believe foul play contributed to Luna’s disappearance. Two detectives are assigned to the case and actively pursuing leads.
“It’s just one of those disappearances that there’s not a whole lot of background on at this point,” Tymkowych said. “We’d like to see if the public can help out.”
Anyone with information about Luna is asked to call Detective Robert Cash at 970-350-9601or the Greeley Police Investigations Unit at 970-350-9670.
