Two women have been arrested after allegedly carjacking a man’s SUV at gunpoint early Tuesday morning and then crashing it into another car, authorities say.
The driver of a car that was struck by the stolen SUV during the chase received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The victim, who has not been identified, was later released from a hospital.
The names of the suspects have not been released.
Commerce City police received a 2:30 a.m. emergency call about an aggravated robbery near East 60th Avenue and Holly Street.
A man claimed two women armed with a handgun demanded he give them his 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, according to a news release by Michelle Halstead, Commerce City police spokeswoman.
Police spotted the SUV near the 6000 block of Interstate 25 and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
The suspects sped away and a chase ensued.
During the chase the suspects allegedly lost control of the stolen SUV and crashed into another vehicle at East 84th Avenue and Conifer Drive, Halstead said.
A standoff ensued when the two women refused to exit the stolen vehicle.
Authorities managed to coax the women into surrendering without further incident about an hour later, Halstead said.
