A sheriff’s deputy in western Colorado was injured Saturday after officials say he was dragged by a vehicle driven by a fugitive.
The Mesa County deputy was with other officers who had stopped 43-year-old Donald Quint, who was wanted by Grand Junction police on suspicion of second-degree assault and domestic violence-related charges.
“He fled from deputies after appearing initially to be compliant with the traffic stop, dragging and nearly running over a deputy during his escape in a vehicle he wasn’t legally licensed to operate,” the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy had injuries to his knees and arms. He was treated and released Saturday night.
Authorities later found the vehicle Quint was driving outside a home where he was inside. A standoff ensued and SWAT officers were called to the scene.
“SWAT officers made entry into the bathroom trying to arrest Donald, he swung a shower curtain at them trying to strike them and assault them several time,” the sheriff’s office said.
Quint was eventually arrested and faces a long list of charges, including second-degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.
Quint is being held without bond at the Mesa County jail.
