More than 2 million people visited the Denver Zoo or participated in zoo outreach education programs in 2015, making it the second busiest year in the 119-year history of the institution.
About 1.96 million people visited the zoo while about 74,000 people participated in its outreach education programs, for a total of just under 2.04 million.
An exhibit that featured life-size, and even some larger than life, animal and plant sculptures made from Lego blocks scattered throughout the zoo’s grounds helped propel attendance.
A June feature that allowed guests to feed the zoo’s giraffes from a platform in their yard also was popular.
The 2015 attendance number was close to the record set in 2012, which registered nearly 2.07 million.
