Lakewood police are investigating a fatal car crash near the intersection of eastbound Alameda Avenue and Vance Street.

Lakewood police spokesman Steve Hipwell said witnesses reported the driver of a 4-door silver Honda sedan was southbound and ran a red light at the intersection of Teller Street and Alameda Avenue and was struck by a westbound black SUV.

The driver of a Honda, which was traveling about 40 mph in a 30 mph zone, died at the scene. The damage to the car is so severe officials have been unable to determine if the driver is male or female, Hipwell said.
