Interesting couple of nights recently for Ralston Valley girls basketball …
On Tuesday, the Mustangs headed into Broomfield to take on the defending Class 5A state champion. They played well before losing 62-55 to the Eagles in nonleague.
And on Wednesday, Ralston Valley knocked off rival Lakewood 43-41 to forge a tie for the Class 5A Jefferson County League lead. Now 17-3 overall, 10-1 in league, the Mustangs used an 18-11 scoring edge in the third quarter. All told, Ashley Van Sickle led the Mustangs with 14 points and Hannah Weber added 10 along with 11 rebounds.
Ralston Valley is ranked No. 6 in the Associated Press 5A media poll.
The Mustangs’ other losses were by a point to ThunderRidge, currently ranked fourth and last season’s state runner-up, in December and Lakewood, No. 5, which beat Ralston Valley 60-47 on Jan. 15.
