Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.
What McConnell (as well as most of his peers and GOP faithful) fully realizes but fails to acknowledge is the American people spoke loud and clear when they elected President Obama — twice. So by delaying a vote and refusing to even consider a nominee, Republicans are the ones denying the majority of American people their voice in this process.
There is no clearer example to back up the oft-cited, truly American value that elections have consequences.

This letter was published in the Feb. 17 edition.At the heart of Antonin Scalia s judicial philosophy was a strict adherence to the original meaning of our Constitution. If the GOP truly stands for that principle, it will move to expeditiously confirm a qualified nominee to the Supreme Court. If not, I can t think of anything more likely to galvanize the women voters of this country than the protracted vacancy of a key seat on the Supreme Court.
