North Metro Fire Rescue firefighters rescued one person and a second person managed to flee a blaze without help as flames burst through the roof of a large Broomfield home early Wednesday morning.
The conditions of the two residents of the two-story home on Lipan Street have not been released.
A neighbor reported the fire at 4:29 a.m., said Sarra Farris, spokeswoman for NMFR.
Thick black smoke was billowing out of the home when firefighters arrived, Farris said. Four engines and two medic units responded to the emergency.
Flames broke through the roof and were shooting at least 10 feet above the home.
At one point, rescuers believed a third person was trapped inside the home but they learned the other person had stayed elsewhere Tuesday night.
Intense heat forced firemen to exit the home and attack the fire with water hoses only from outside the house, Farris said. That delayed firefighting efforts, she said.
Firefighters continued to extinguish hot spots more than an hour after they were called to the home, Farris said.
Several investigators are on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire.
