A 32-year-old Loveland man was killed Friday morning when a tractor-trailer collided with his low-powered scooter, according to a Loveland Police Department news release.
At around 7:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of East 37th Street and Rocky Mountain Avenue.
Efrain Urquidi-Alarcon, a 33-year-old man from Evans, was driving the tractor-trailer when he struck the 32-year old from behind.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Officials do not suspect either driver was impaired or texting at the time of the crash.
Because of the seriousness of the injuries, the Loveland Police Department Technical Crash Investigation Unit investigated the accident, which caused portions of East 37th Street and Rocky Mountain Avenue to close for about three hours. A commercial motor vehicle inspector also was called to the scene to examine the tractor-trailer.
Once the investigation is complete, the Larimer County District Attorney’s office will determine possible charges.
