Level 3 Communications on Wednesday announced that chief executive Jeff K. Storey, 55, is on a two-month medical leave to recover from surgery related to a heart condition.
The Broomfield telecom’s board of directors named chief financial officer Sunit S. Patel, 54, as interim CEO, effective immediately. Patel has been CFO since 2003.
Storey, who became the , joined the company around 2008. He was recently diagnosed with a heart condition, according to the company.
In a statement, Dr. Myles S. Guber, with Colorado Cardiovascular Surgical Associates, said Storey’s surgery went well.
“While a significant operation, it is a common procedure, and I expect Mr. Storey to make a full recovery,” Guber said.
The company expects Storey to return in two months on a limited basis.
