Mark Sanchez was formally introduced as the newest Bronco on Monday, beginning his tenure as a potential follow to Peyton Manning.
Although more moves are expected at the position, Sanchez made it clear he plans to vie for the starting job. But he also made it clear he’s not looking to compare himself to Manning.
“What’s crazy, too, is I was talking about it to my brother the other day, but (Brett) Favre was there right before I got to New York, so there’s another first-ballot Hall of Famer,” he said. “What a unique circumstance that was, but to both of those players, especially Peyton, nobody follows those guys. You don’t try to emulate them. I mean, you see what they do on the field and you’d love to do some of those things, especially all the successful things that he’s done, but you don’t try and be Peyton Manning. … That’s just rarefied air. I’m so impressed with what he’s done and would love to learn as much as I can from him and the guys who have been with him, but you have to be yourself. I’ll work as hard as I can to be the best version of myself and give everything I got to this team.”
