A man accused in two separate sexual assaults, one in 1998 and one in 2000, was found guilty Wednesday — nearly two decades later.

Warren Foster, 47, was convicted Wednesday of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault with force, two counts of third-degree assault and false imprisonment, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office and Denver police.

In a joint news release, officials said the conviction is result of dedicated work by Denver’s Cold Case Project, and particularly by Detective Larry Moore.

In 1998, prosecutors say, Foster assaulted an 18-year-old woman who was new to Denver and who was looking for a friend’s house when Foster offered her a ride.
Foster later sexually assaulted a 27-year-old woman in 2000 after offering to give her a ride.

DNA matched the two cases in 2011. Foster was charged at that time. However, he was serving a prison sentence in New Mexico for another sexual assault charge and didn’t return to Denver until 2014.

Since Foster was on parole during the time of the 2000 offense, he will face an “aggravated sentencing range” when sentenced on June 3 in a Denver District Court, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
