Colorado Senate Bill 148 would require high school students to pass a civics test – the one the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services gives to immigrants – in order to graduate. (Thinkstock by Getty Images)

Re: Why Colorado shouldn’t add another mandatory test for students, March 11 editorial.

As a high school senior, I agree that many of the tests students take have very little benefit. In most subjects, no individual test decides whether or not students can graduate; the decision is based on their class grades, which usually give a more reliable measurement of their knowledge.

If a student can t pass a single civics test, a bad grade on his or her transcript should be enough of a penalty.
