Bullying is NOT original, NOT cool, NOT welcome. Don t give bullying an audience. Stop bullying now.
These are typical of the signs I see each week in the local school where I tutor. Teachers are working hard to convince kids that bullying of other children is wrong, cowardly and destructive, and that it hurts them as much as those they bully.
I thought of those signs over the past weeks as I read about the raw, vicious language and violent attacks that characterize Donald Trump and his followers and rallies. Surely this behavior should be condemned as bullying at its worst.
But wait — what are the consequences of Trump-style bullying? While those with intelligence and decency denounce Trump, he continues to attract voters by the millions.
So, what s the moral of this story? Surely it must be that bullying is all right, that the bully wins in the end. Is that the lesson we want our children to learn?
