Re: A message for today s police officers, March 20 guest commentary.
Dan Montgomery is 100 percent correct with his column honoring our men and women in uniform. I have four police officers in my extended family. But I feel that if Montgomery wanted to give real advice and support to the officers of today, he would have mentioned the need to weed out the bad officers. To not be silent when one sees wrong by another officer. That the old code of silence needs to be broken. Montgomery obviously loved being a police officer, but he mentioned the 60s and 70s as being tough on police. That happened to be a time when police corruption was high. He could help the young men and women today by telling them to rise above the old code of silence. There would be less distrust and anger from citizens if that one last wall came down.
