Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder addresses questions by the media after the release of the Flint Water Advisory Task Force final report at Mott Community College in Flint, Mich., on March 23. The state of Michigan is “fundamentally accountable” for Flint’s lead-contaminated water crisis because of decisions made by its environmental regulators and state-appointed emergency managers who controlled the city, an investigatory task force concluded Wednesday. Re: Stop the madness over political recalls, March 20 editorial (reprinted from Bloomberg View).
As someone who took part in the recall of the officials who wanted positive American history in Jefferson County schools, I believe recalling officials is something that the people need to do when they believe that their elected officials aren t doing their job.
The people giveth power, the people taketh away. In the case of Flint, Mich., Gov. Rick Snyder should definitely be taken out of his position.
Elected officials are supposed to do what s best for the people governed over, in terms of health, education, economics, etc. Small mistakes are excused — a small, unexpected drop in employment, or a public work that goes a bit over budget — but not the lead poisoning of thousands of residential children by way of drinking water.
