Jazz: René Marie does her own thing
saturday-sunday. Jazz singer René Marie is probably still best-known in Denver for the controversy she sparked here in 2008 subbing lyrics to “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (aka “the black national anthem”) for “The Star Spangled Banner” at a mayoral speech. But that’s just one moment in a successful career that’s spanned two decades, borrowing influences from musical genres across the spectrum. These days, she’s doing her own thing, touring in support of her first album of all-original material. She sings the set this weekend at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday at Dazzle. 930 Lincoln St. $27. 303-839-5100 or . — Ray Mark Rinaldi
