Atlas Genius brothers Keith and Michael Jeffrey aren t known for being predictable.
It was evident from the line of fans that queued up outside of their show at Denver s Bluebird Theater last night — teenagers debated veganism vs. vegetarianism and adults knitted to kill time — to their eclectic set list.
The brothers started off the night with the bravado-filled Stockholm, off their latest release, “Inanimate Objects.”
They then took the show through City We Grow before launching into first-album hit If So with such command and vigor that it almost made you worry it was an early finale.
Soothing that fear, the brothers delivered strong performances of more crowd favorites, alternating between albums from Where I Belong to Back Seat and Refugees.
Keith frequently and fearlessly departed from the studio recordings to deliver impressive guitar rifts that smacked of Nirvana, The Police and Smashing Pumpkins, shredding over the synth and bass-backed tracks which enamored the packed house.
The duo paused just long enough for the tide of applause to rise before they overcame it with Symptoms , Balladino and A Perfect End. Over entrancing guitar, Keith belted: The outcome is pseudo bliss/Turn hours sung/I went in tears/And it all rolled into one from Centered On You.
The group closed the set with a smooth rendition of Drake s Hotline Bling mixed with hit Molecules.”
They returned over resounding cheers, claps and screaming to encore with The Weeknd s The Hills and powerhouse tribute to their start with Trojans.
