Fremont County authorities are investigating after a 31-year-old man reported that he had been shot Saturday while driving through Cañon City.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to St. Thomas More Hospital where the man told investigators he was traveling through the north part of town when he heard a loud bang only to realize one of his car windows was shattered and that he was injured.

“The victim was able to drive to the hospital to seek medical help,” the county sheriff’s office said in a Monday news release. “Emergency room personnel confirmed that the victim had been shot by a bullet of unknown caliber.”

The man was last listed in stable condition.

An investigation into the case remains ongoing. Authorities did not provide an exact area where the man had been shot or say if they believe the shooting was random or not.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 719 275-7867 or the sheriff’s office at 719-276-5555.
