COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Colorado Springs and Pueblo County have nearly reached a stormwater deal after nearly a year of negotiations.
The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1NmO5To ) that Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers outlined the tentative agreement for the City Council Monday. It would provide $460 million in stormwater projects by 2035.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has implied that it would likely sue Colorado Springs and restrict its stormwater permit without dramatic improvements to the system.
Pueblo County also threatened to withhold the permit it granted to Colorado Springs Utilities for an $825 million water delivery system. Voters there approved the permit in 2009 but felt burned when Colorado Springs pulled funding for the project a month later.
The City Council and Pueblo County commissioners are set to vote on the deal in two weeks.
