A former Aurora code enforcement officer has been named director of the Neighborhood Services Department, the city announced Friday.

Malcolm Hankins returns to Aurora after a stint as neighborhood preservation manager for Chandler, Ariz.

Hankins had worked in Aurora as a neighborhood support supervisor before heading to the Phoenix area.

“Aurora has remained near to my heart, and I’m excited to rejoin such a thriving and diverse community,” Hankins said in a statement.

Hankins replaces retiring interim director Ron Moore.

“Malcolm brings to Aurora a great understanding of what it takes to bring neighbors together and neighborhoods together,” Aurora City Manager George “Skip” Noe said in a statement. “Aurora’s Neighborhood Services Department is one of the city’s most direct points of contact with residents, and Malcolm is committed to making those interactions more productive, more engaging and more meaningful.”

The department handles a number of critical city services including its animal shelter, community development, code enforcement and community relations.

A pastor at First Watch Ministries in Phoenix, Hankins holds a master’s degree in ministry from Phoenix Seminary.
