Re: Colorado group proposes far-reaching assisted-suicide ballot question, April 10 news story.

After reading Joey Bunch s article regarding the right to die, or assisted suicide, it is evident that a measure addressing this issue should be introduced. This is important to many individuals, their families and loved ones who are suffering from deteriorating health conditions such as Parkinson s disease.

Many people are in severe discomfort from diseases and cannot give themselves medication to alleviate their pain. The pain and agony is identified specifically by the patient who is in anguish. Initiating an assisted-suicide measure and putting it on the ballot this fall would allow patients the option to choose what is best for them, while provoking discussions about their health care needs, medications, and end-of-life decisions with their families and health care providers.

Placing this issue on the ballot is a step toward patient autonomy. Patients with terminal medical conditions need to be heard.
