The managing director of the Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is retiring next month.

According to a prepared announcement, Marcel Pitton, 55, will retire at the end of May after 11 years managing the hotel.

“Having the opportunity to oversee and actually live in one of the great historic and luxury hotels of America has been one of the best experiences of my life, but at this time, I want to explore other interests and see where they take me,” Pitton said in the release.

Pitton was responsible for all operations at the historic Brown Palace Hotel, as well as the Holiday Inn Express Denver Downtown, and five restaurants.

During his time as managing director, Pitton oversaw a refurbishing project of the hotel finished last year. It included , adding meeting rooms and .

The hotel also underwent a Capital Partners, an investment arm of the Trammell Crow family in Dallas.

Quorum Hotels and Resorts, which has continued to manage the hotel after the sale, is searching for a replacement.

Pitton serves on several boards including for the Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association, Metro Denver Hotel Association, the REACH Foundation, the American Red Cross and the Denver Police Foundation.
